DC Trip May 4

May7

On Thursday we started out at the White House and got to see President Obama take off in Marine 1 on his way to New York. We walked over to the World War II Memorial and then went to the top of the Washington Monument for some excellent pictures. After a quick lunch at Union Station we walked to the Capitol and toured the crypt and the Rotunda. Some groups went to the Jefferson Memorial and others to the Library of Congress before meeting up on the west side of the Capitol for our group picture. We then walked back up Capitol Hill to meet with Congressman Dan Benishek. Trudy, our awesome bus driver, picked us up at the bottom of Capitol Hill and we visited the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. The reflecting pool has been drained for repairs before the building of a museum in conjunction with the Vietnam Memorial that will be partially underground. After an hour at the Air and Space Museum, we headed to Armand’s Pizza for an all you can eat feast. Before going back to the hotel, we made a stop at the FDR Memorial to see the waterfalls all lit up at night.
